Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the Indian diaspora in Africa’s Mozambique on Thursday. He also lauded the Indian community for assimilating with the African society but at the same time maintaining their Indianness. He said “Africa was the land which started shaping the identity of the Indian diaspora, Even as you assimilate with your local societies, you have managed to conserve the essence of your Indianness,” He had some bilateral talks with Mozambique President Filipe Nyusi after being accorded a ceremonial welcome at the Presidential Office in Maputo upon his arrival.
This is PM’s first official visit to mainland Africa and is also the first prime ministerial visit from India to Mozambique in 34 years since the visit of then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in 1982.
Apart from Mozambique and South Africa, he will also visit Tanzania and Kenya during his African sojourn.
