Sriram Raghavan’s 2018 dark-comedy-thriller Andhadhun is unarguably one of the finest films made in Modern Indian cinema. Starring Ayushmann Khurrana, Tabu, and Radhika Apte in the lead roles, the film was a big success at the box office as well. Andhadhun is not a stereotypical thriller that has a definite ending. Sriram Raghvan closes the film on an interesting note that makes audiences keep guessing about the ending. Keeping aside the open-ending of the film, there is an interesting cat theory in it. A netizen decoded this theory on Facebook and people cannot stop raving about Sriram’s intelligence after reading this intriguing thesis.
Warning: Spoilers Ahead
If you have watched the film, you may recollect that the protagonist Aakash (Ayushmann Khurrana) had a pet-cat. A netizen thought why the makers chose only a cat and not any other pet. While decoding, she came up with this intriguing concept. Mythologically, cats are believed to have nine lives. They usually survive deadly accidents which most of the other creatures fail to do so. In Andhadhun, Aakash also survives from the clutches of the death nine times. Here are those nine instances:
1. The scooter accident
2. The piano scene. Aakash would have got killed if he had messed up things in that scene.
3. When Manohar goes to Aakash’s flat.
4. The sweet that turns him blind.
5. Manohar’s second attempt to kill Aakash.
6. Kidney transplant surgery
7. The hospital scene where Tabu tries to kill him.
8. The car scene in the climax.
Aakash survived these eight deadly instances in the film and attained nine survivals. This theory is mind-blowing and Sriram Raghvan is truly a master of filmmaking. Take a bow, Master!
